SHDH remaining 'vigilant' after attacks
The Victorian Government is investigating the scale of a ransomware attack by cyber criminals on some of the state's major regional hospitals.
Hospitals in Warrnambool, Colac, Geelong, Warragul, Sale and Bairnsdale were affected by the attack.
Several services were affected such as payroll and patient scheduling services, but according to investigators, there is no evidence of patient records being accesses.
Ransomware is a type of malicious software, or malware, designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid.
It is typically spread through phishing emails or by unknowingly visiting an infected website.
