Friday Night Fright As Grassfire Threatens Towns
A burnoff that spread out of control has been sited as the cause for a frightening grassfire that threatened Quambatook and Kerang on Friday evening.
CFA crews were called to the fire on Kerang-Quambatook Road just after 8:30pm, leading to multiple escalations by the CFA as strong winds threatened nearby property.
29 appliances eventually contained the fire within two hours, with no extensive damage reported.
CFA crews stayed on site until midday on Saturday to continue monitoring the area and blacking out.
The total amount of hectares burnt is not yet known, however it's estimated to be over 12 hectares.
The CFA issued an advice warning for Bael Bael, Budgerum East, Pine View, Quambatook, Sandhill Lake and Wandella at 9:43pm, an hour after the fire had started due to its concerning path.
