Incidents have occurred in Swan Hill and Kerang

Police are issuing a warning as some locals are continuing to leave pets and children in cars unattended on hot days.

Incidents have been confirmed to have occurred in both Swan Hill and Kerang supermarket car parks.

It follows similar incidents that have occurred in the region throughout the summer months, including one incident back in December where two dogs were left alone in a vehicle in 42 degree weather.

Swan Hill Police Acting Inspector Brad Bennett says that they have been fortunate in resolving the incidents.

"Fortunately, we've been able to page the owners in the supermarket with the animals and they've come out immediately and then the matter has been addressed from there.

"But, if we can't find them within a very quick time[frame] then we will be smashing the windows, we will be gaining entry to the car, if necessary."

In Victoria, it is against the law to leave children unattended in a car.

Parents or carers could face fines of nearly $3,700, up to six months’ jail, or both.

If you see a child or animal in an unattended vehicle, contact police on 000.
