Swan Hill podiatrist says shortages are critical in rural health

A Swan Hill podiatrist says careers in the regional allied health practice are being overlooked by students and young practitioners.

Country Feet Podiatry owner Emily Luke said the ability to meet growing needs for podiatry services is limited by a shortage of podiatrists, particularly in regional areas.

Ms. Luke stated that she had been looking for a podiatrist to meet growing demand the approximately 18 months, with only limited success.

Luke stated that it has a negative impact on patients and that the problem is likely to become worse in regional areas in the future.

Aggravated burglary in Swan Hill

Police are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary in Swan Hill.

Offenders entered a property on Stradbroke Avenue in Swan Hill at approximately 9:00pm on Friday June 7 .

A person was asleep in the house at the time and was awoken by the offenders who fled the scene.

Police are calling for anyone with information or CCTV to contact Swan Hill Police Station or Crime Stoppers.

New boat ramp works start Monday

Swan Hill boating and fishing enthusiasts can look forward to using a new, two-lane concrete boat ramp this spring, according to the Swan Hill Rural City Council.

Contractors will remove the existing Milloo Street boat ramp on Monday and start the re-build. Additional long vehicle parking will also be built in the area.

The existing boat ramp will be closed for the duration of the upgrade, expected to be about eight weeks.

The council stated that they waited until winter to complete the work, in an effort to minimise interruption.

The $360,000 project is thanks to funding from the Department of Transport Boating Safety and Facilities Program, the Victorian Fisheries Authority Better Fishing Facility Program and the council.

Ley officially announced as Member for Farrer

New Environment Minister Sussan Ley has been officially declared the Member for Farrer for another term.

Ms. Ley says it’s an extensive portfolio and that she is busy researching her role, to better assist the community and to be able to make informed decisions for the electorate.

AFL Central Murray v AFL Sunraysia

AFL Central Murray battled it out with AFL Sunraysia on Monday June 10 at Tooleybuc.

AFL Sunraysia won three of the four fixtures, winning the girls fixture 12.12.84 to 3.4.22, the Under 13's 10.14.74 to 2.0.12 and the Under 14's 17.11.113 to 1.0.6.

AFL Central Murray took the final fixture, a victory in the Under 15's, winning 14.4.88 to 6.1.37.

In a statement, the academy's stated that both regions played some great football and thanked Tooleybuc Manangatang Football Netball Club for hosting the event.

Central Murray / Golden Rivers Netball League Round Eight preview

Swan Hill will face Woorinen in Round Eight of the Central Murray Netball League.

Both teams are yet to lose this season. Woorinen are currently top of the table, with a 7-0 record on the season. Swan Hill are in second with a 6-0 record.

In other fixtures, Balranald will face Kerang, Cohuna Kangas will take on Lake Boga, Mallee Eagles will try for a win over Koondrook/Barham and Nyah Nyah West United will oppose Tyntynder.

Moving to the Golden Rivers Netball League, Moulamein will be facing Wandella in Round Eight.

Macorna will face Murrabit, Quambatook will take on Nullawil and Ultima will attempt a win over Hay.
