MDBA water resource plans underway

Progress to complete new water resource plans for the Murray–Darling Basin is well underway, however delivery of some plans is behind schedule according to the latest quarterly report issued today by the Murray–Darling Basin Authority.

MDBA Executive Director of Water Resource Planning and Accounting, Dr Peta Derham, said the coming months would be a test of the state and territory governments’ commitment to submit high quality water resource plans that comply with the Murray–Darling Basin Plan.

Rabobank Rural Confidence Survey

The latest Rabobank Rural Confidence Survey has found that the much needed autumn break has lifted the spirits of farmers across Victoria.

The latest survey, released this week found close to a third of Victorian farmers (31 per cent) had a positive outlook on the agricultural economy over the coming 12 months – up from 23 per cent with that view in the previous quarter.

According to the survey, sentiment in the state’s rural sector has climbed to its highest level since late 2017.

Rabobank regional manager for Southern Victoria & Tasmania Hamish McAlpin said despite the good start to the season, spring rainfall would be critical, with soil moisture levels remaining low at depth following “the extended dry” in many parts of the state.

Drug figures in Victoria

Victoria’s drugs crisis continues to worsen, according to the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

The National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program report, released this week reveals Victoria has the highest heroin use in the nation.

Sites monitored in Regional Victoria recorded the highest regional consumption of Ice and MDMA.

Shadow Minister for Mental Health Emma Kealy said that more needs to be done for regional Victoria.

Agriculture Victoria issue warning

Agriculture Victoria have released a warning to farmers in the Mallee about Hypocalcaemia.

Hypocalcaemia, more commonly known as milk fever, is a deficiency of calcium in the blood with cases in pregnant ewes expected at this time of year.

Milk fever usually occurs in mature, fat ewes during the last six weeks of pregnancy or the first 10 days after lambing although other classes of sheep may also be affected.

Sheep affected with Hypocalcaemia should be treated as a matter of urgency with calcium solution, readily available from a veterinary practice or rural merchandiser.

Further information can be obtained from local veterinarians or Agriculture Victoria animal health staff.

North Central Football League Round Nine preview

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers will take on Charlton in Round Nine of the North Central Football League at the weekend.

The Tigers are currently the top team in the competition, having not lost a game this season. Their previous result was a win over Wedderburn.

On the other side, Charlton will be looking to give the Tigers their first loss as they currently sit in third position on the ladder, having lost to Birchip Watchem the previous week.

In other games, Boort will face Wedderburn, Donald will take on St Arnaud and Birchip Watchem will oppose Wycheproof Narraport.

Swan Hill Soccer Club Round Ten preview

Swan Hill will be facing La Trobe University SC in Round Ten of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League at the weekend.

Swan Hill is coming off of a Round Nine clash against Epsom SC, where they had one draw and one loss

Looking back to last week, the Women's side fell 3-0 and as a result they sit in twelfth position with a 1-6-1 record.

The Division Two side had better fortune, taking a 1-1 draw. With it, they maintained eighth position with 3 wins and 4 losses and 1 draw.

Their opponent's Division Two side had a 1-1 draw over Colts United FC and the Women's side fell 4-0.
