Inaugural event brings community together

Kerang held their inaugural parkrun at the weekend, attracting 170 participants.

Held each Saturday at Kerang Regional Park, the event had participants from all over the region; including people as far out as Melbourne and Bendigo.

Co-event Director Annette Kelly says that the community support has been positive.

"Our main aim is our own community, to get the community involved. On the day, we were just blown away with the amount of people that turned up and participated." says Kelly.

A meeting was held last year to get a idea of the kind of interest from the local community, which Kelly says was key in making sure that the event would be sustainable.

"One of the main things is to make sure that you've got the community's backing, that's why we had that first meeting 12 months ago.

"From then, because people are becoming more aware of parkrun, it's just evolved into people asking about it and wanting to become involved."

Parkrun events are community-led in 21 countries around the world.

The 5km run will be held every Saturday at 8:00am, with more information available HERE.
