Police hoping for greater presence and engagement

Swan Hill Police in conjunction with the Swan Hill Rural City Council launched Victoria Police bicycle patrols on Wednesday.

Local police are hoping that the patrol will provide a greater police presence, but also allow for some community engagement.

The unit will be wearing special uniforms and have under undergone specialized training.

Patrolling across the Swan Hill Shire, Inspector Haydn Downes says that they'll be in a variety of locations.

"They'll be stopping to speak with people, they'll be going around the caravan parks, down the riverwalk and those sorts of places" says Downes.

"It's a bit of everything, crime prevention and community engagement, so they'll be around for the next few months while the weather holds out."

The patrol area will cover the four council wards, from Lake Boga to Robinvale, concentrating on holiday areas, CBD’s and attendance at special events.
