Push-up Challenge

Push-up Challenge

Over $4.9 million dollars raised nationwide

Over 100 million push-ups have been completed nationally as part of Headspace's Push-Up Challenge.

As part of raising awareness for mental health, individuals or groups had until the end of May to complete 3,046 push-ups, the number of individuals in Australia whose lives were lost to suicide in 2018.

Locally, within the Mallee around 80,000 push-ups were completed by over 100 participants.

Youth Worker at Headspace Swan Hill Kat Hindle says fundraising is going to continue for the next four weeks;

"It closes on the 29th of June. About 75% of the funds have been raised for Headspace national and then 25% of the funds have been for local Headspace centres."

$4,958,504 has been raised through the event so far.

Headspace offers mental health services to those aged between 12-25, offering them support at their over 110 national centres, through their national telehealth service and 'eheadspace' resources.

The COVID-19 lockdown has seen more people seeking out support.

"Some people have really thrived in isolation and other people have found it really hard," says Hindle.

"I think people are more aware of how their friends and families and colleagues are going and people are checking in and even being a little more open with how they're coping."
